ANANDIA PUTRI

Putri’s work is something you’re probably already familiar with. She is the wonderful designer behind the brand IKYK — one of the finest fashion lines in town. Her designs are ethereal, earthy, and has this organic kind of feel. We first got acquainted with Putri through a mutual friend at a fashion event and her charm stuck with us ever since. Fast forward to a couple years later, here we are having a cup of coffee with the girl boss herself. We sat down together for this interview, shared our latest inspirations, talked about recent travel trips, and of course our big love for bags.

It seems that we’ve known each other for so long! I think it was 5 years ago in 2011. How did you start IKYK back then?
Actually I was working in advertising at Lowe. But I have always had this burning passion to create something bigger. Something creative. I juggled between fashion or cooking (I love food, but I can’t cook LOL). Finally at the end of the day I got hooked into making my own brand.

About fashion designers, I always wonder..do you always wear your design on a daily basis?
At first, no. But it’s sort of awkward when someone compliments you and you tell them that you got this shirt from Zara. I mean, it’s always better to represent your own brand and that should be yourself, right? So after that phase, I started to wear my design (almost) everywhere I go.

That sounds so perfect! And lately, I think I noticed a huge Korean/Asian influence on your brand and design. Especially we’re swooning over IKYK latest shoot in Seoul! Where did that inspiration coming from?
It’s always been like that. Before Korea, my influences are hugely inspired by the East Asian cultures. Think about Japan and South Korea. And I’m also a big fan of Big Bang, so the whole inspiration came organically. I design things that I would wear and what I like.

So, let’s talk about bags. What kind of bag that you would wear?
I usually wear neutral colour palette, so I always try to mix my wardrobe up with a bag that stands out. Such as Celine and Marni. Color-wise, it would be blue, black, nothing too eccentric!

Do you believe that your astrology defines you bag pick?
Umm…maybe! I’m a Scorpio, and actually I like to wear timeless, useful bags. Definitely won’t go for a trendy bag that will only last for a season. That’s why I choose these 2 bags for our shoot, Hermès Kelly 35 Togo Retourne SHW in Mykonos and Hermès Picotin GM Bag in Graphite. A true classic.

How often you shop for a bag?
Too often! This is a thing about me that not everyone knows. Especially when I travel, I bring all kinds of bag with me. Backpack, clutch, shoulder bag, you

Last but not least, if you could trade bag with a person, who would that be?
